ALLJOBS INDEX NEWS

The current Index has dipped seasonally to below the 1,000 barrier at 956.77. Last year, at the start of January 2011, the Index stood at an encouraging 852.34. Whilst 2011 saw rapid growth in the number of vacancy adverts, this tailed off in the second half of the year.  Overall, we saw growth of 11%, almost matching the 12% from 2011, but the trend is very definitely more cautious towards the end of the year.  January is, of course, traditionally the lowest point of the year for vacancy volumes, and we see now signs of optimism in the coming weeks. The very worst start to a year, in the history of the Index, was 648.62, in January 2010.

Across the 10 sites we monitor, the average volume of live job adverts at any one time in 2011, averaged at c.446k.  This shows good growth on the figures of 360k and 402k for 2009 and 2010 respectively.  However, our peak figure of an average of 760,000 vacancies advertised weekly still stands from 2007.
